I thought the closures had been reversed due to demand? I was planning on getting a D4 next year. Crying or Very sad

What the hell are we going to drive then?

Don't know re that, my info may be out of date but haven't heard re cancellation of closure. You know what it's like, press likes the bad news but ignores the change of that. Sad

I wonder what LR have up their sleeves. They risk alienating a lot of people. FFRR is too 'posh' for what I want and Defender too basic. Both fine vehicles but the middle ground suits me and has done for the last twenty years or so of Disco ownership.

C'mon TLO; spill a few beans! Wink

It was announced this week that both are staying open.

Also, the D4 replacement isn't meant to be due until around 2014 and rumour suggests it will be a 7 seat range rover.

BP is right!

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Business/...ds_Of_Jobs

Thousands of new car production jobs are likely with the turn around in fortunes of Jaguar Land Rover.

Fifteen hundred new UK posts have already been announced.

But three times that number may be needed if the company's strategy goes to plan.

In the recession, JLR was set to close one of its three UK manufacturing plants. That has now been shelved. A major part of this recovery involves the new Range Rover Evoque, recently launched at the Paris Motor Show, with a five door model unveiled this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The company's latest, smallest and most fuel-efficient Range Rover will be built at the Halewood plant on Merseyside.

Land Rover MD Phil Popham said: "We've got a long term ambitious plan at Land Rover to grow our business and to grow it profitably, that's expanding into new markets and expanding our product range, while focusing on efficiency and costs.

"We have a real opportunity with the products we're introducing to be a big success globally."

The company has received 13,000 applications for the 1,500 new Halewood jobs.

But expansion plans and future new models are likely to add up to good news for the company's factories at Solihull and Castle Bromwich in the Midlands.

The JLR workforce has recently signed a pay deal of 5% this year and inflation plus 0.5% in 2011.

Des Quinn, of the Unite union, said: "It is a good pay deal which brings stability and loyalty. We know the company is looking for engineers all the time to develop these marvellous cars."

"On top of that, if all the plans come to fruition they will need people to build them and we are talking about 5,000 people. They will be long term jobs here in the UK."

According to the unions, TATA Motors of India, the owning parent company, has clearly placed its trust and investment in British know-how and British engineering skills.
