Whinning noise - bearing related? |
|
Hi
I have a 05 disco 3 manual (75K) that has just started to make a faint whinning noise. It sounds like a moped is behind you. Its not seem to be the transamission noise that you get with these or is it engine related, as it doesn't change when being reved and if i take the thing out of gear and cruise it's still there but gets slower as the landy slows down. To me it sounds like a bearing on its way out - any thoughts anyone?

As a 'test' . . . when it is whining, press the ECON button, to switch out the A/C compressor, if it stops the whine, it is more than likely the front bearing on the compressor.
Mine did the same, but having it re-gassed (and oiled) sorted it, stopped completely Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !
