D4 & LED Trailer Lights.

Hi Chaps,

I know this topic has been discussed a few times but I couldn't get a definitive answer to these questions by doing a search on here.

I want to update my normal filament trailer lights with some LED units like these...
http://www.towingandtrailers.co.uk/shop/14/31/60/694/index.htm

Questions:

1. Will they work straight away?

2. Will the indicators flash?

3. Will the car detect that the trailer is plugged in?

If not, what do I need to do/buy to get the whole lot to work correctly?

Thanks in advance. Thumbs Up

1. If you wire them right, they should!
2. No, the D4 won't flash the leds Smile
3. But no, it won't detect the trailer either Sad

You'll need a shunt box, or a power resistor or similar. I used a 22W globe wired across the indicator circuit and earth. Have a search on LED shunt box?

Cheers,

Gordon

LED trailer lights DO work, the only thing that you need to do is incorporate a ballast resistor across the indicators, otherwise the car doesn't detect the trailer. i.e dash trailer indicator doesn't work, suspension raises etc. If you can live with this then plug in & go.
