Hi all
I am going to need to replace my disks and pads all round soon. The only question is which ones to use the D3 is a big set up and I have no experience with the life span of them on this car. Are the original brakes up to the job or do I go for drilled and grooved replacements.
Any advice on this would be grate. And where to get them from as well would be cool.
Cheers

I've just fitted Terrafirma all round. I think they have great feel, bite and better stopping power over LR originals. Grooved and drilled so look cool as well.

And why exactly would we think that Land Rover got it wrong?? Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Mine are warped but vehicle has done 80000 miles i have only had it two weeks and new i had to replace them. They may not even be genuine LR with this mileage. So i am asking the question from the more exsperianced D3 owners. nothing else wrong such as seized calipers and so on.
Just if i have to replace them i would like to do it with the best available for reasonable money It's more reliable than my boat!!

Dave T,
Who said Land Rover got it wrong? These are the 3rd set of discs and pads on my car and i thought I'd try something different following on from the LR originals previously fitted.
it's just my view following on from my experience of both types. if you're happy with LR originals then that's great. There is no right or wrong answer just preference based on experience.

I replaced all corners wih terrafirma slotted and drilled. I also changed pads for green stuff and red stuff - I now have a flat nose and have learnt not to push the pedal as hard, its great to be able to out brake the loonie behind and see the terror on his face as he tries to slow down to avoid tail end shunt A lot less brake dust about as well which has to be good for all manner of things !
! Direct swap, purchased via ebay listing (and subsequent phone call) full set for cost of LR single axel - so big saving me thinks. I'm about 12k into use so not long term but no probs so far
No regrets
Lurk Why do I have 2 big hands when my D3 maintenance requires small hands and at least three of them ?

if you intend using the D3 offroad, i would suggest avoiding the drilled discs. Stones can get jammed in the holes and they will end up trashing your pads.
britpart do discs of the same spec as LR - in fact i think they are exactly the same but in a different box Duncan

Dunc - I know you had britpart and were OK with them, but I wasnt, brand new out of the box, and horrible brake shake - swapped for genuine and back to be all good. Britpart were cheaper, but it cost me more in the end.

Hi All
I hate to burst anyones bubble but I wouldnt bother buying grooved and drilled discs there is no advantage so save your money the drilled discs that you buy are indeed that drilled and are prone to cracking whether a proper drilled disc is forged ie made that way the only thing grooved and drilled are good for is racing on a track.
I would however uprate the pads to Yellow stuff SUV and you will see a difference
I did the V8 Conversion with the Yellow stuff pads and what a difference
cheers

Ajaxisfree - I note the comments above - ref; no real benefit to drilled and groved disks - difficult to prove either way - my thoughts were that a groved disk should help clean out crap if it gets stuck between pad and disk - so less scores in the disk - my last disks were badly scored after some mud plugging - the new are still new looking - but no they are not the £200 per disk race ones - why would you put those on a 3 tonee brick.... Never had problems with grit / stones getting in the groves - maybe that can be problem ??
I put green front and red back (I think - can't be 100% though and its too dark to see now) which ever were the higher performance went back end (go figure) - just thats how I got them . No real plan in there.
The blurb on the red stuff / green stuff is really down to race performance - for me I wanted less dust and a good grab - thats what I got.
You pays your money takes your choice !

Lurk,
I couldn't have said it better. My view and experience say these are better and for £230 for front and back including pads and sensors i thought it a good deal also.
Regarding stones and grit getting trapped, I've had no problems despite the car spending everyday on our construction sites often caked in mud.
Don't forget that tyres also make a difference to braking, but that's for another day.
