D4 FBH GSM Plip Mod
As many of you know the plip on the new D4 is an ideal tool for remotly turning on your FBH, that is of course if you are in radio distance for it to work. not forgetting that its yet another thing ratteling arround on your keyring.
Now it does not have to be
So following on from what so many have done to the D3 by adding a GSM control module i ended up with this.
Pictures are only from my iphone and are not the best quality but you will get the idea.
Pete
Remote in bits, i used a Webasto T91 remote for a VW
Wires added to the switch.
Remote boxed back up with the added wires external.
Kit ready to be fitted inside a nice box for a tidy install to the car.
GSM Remote control from fleebay.

Nice one.....it's a rather convoluted way of getting it to work (i.e using a GSM interface to switch on an aftermarket RF transmitter to switch on the D4 one), but very nice and does the job....

Then you will have to resort to walking within 1000 mtrs and press the plip as per factory lol
Tbh though their are not many places in the Uk with no signal at all so would be very unlikely

will it work with any GSM remote - I dont fancy having to run an antenna anywhere - the one I have in my D3 is fine without.
does the output from the GSM need to be a continuos current for <n> seconds or just a quick on/off ?Duncan

yes it will Dunc
just a momentarily switch ...ie a quick blip ( same as what you would have had on the d3 )
You only need to simulate pressing the remote button ...not hold it downG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

great thanks. the reason i ask is that i have to press and hold the remote for the D4 to activate the PH. a quick press doesnt seem to work. I am guessing from the photos that a for a two channel GSM, the second channel could be connected to the Off button on the remote to turn the heat/vent off ?
I dont know why I would want to....., but its possible on the remote at the moment.
I just need someone with small steady fingers to do some soldering.Duncan
