How long should the heated windscreen use to defrost in temperatures around -10c ? The last few days the air vents appear to do the job faster than the heated screen itself, which makes me curious about if there is any logic that say that it will only start under certain circumstances?
It seems like it works every now and then, but not each time, even though the indicator on the centre console present it as "on".

Dont know about D4 but on D3 4 - 5 minutes or so, couple of minutes if you hold the revs at 2000.

Hi
Thought mine was the same but then noticed the top of the windscreen defrosted before the heater
had got there, i suppose it also depends on the thickness of the ice on the windscreen.
But why do the screens come on automatically everytime you start the car in the cold, even when the
engine is warm and the car defrosted, you could drive a 100 miles stop for a minute and the front and rear screens come on when you restart so first job before you move is turn them offDisco 4 HSE Lux

....maybe has the same heater /AC programming as my XK....also start the screen heaters every time engine is halted below 4deg...BREXIT - done properly.

We havent had any real thick ice. A couple of days the doors were sticking. Worst night was minus 8 (just to give an indication as I know some parts have been really low). The front heater takes about 90 seconds to melt enough of the ice to clear it with a swipe of the wipers and have no misting up inside on mine.
to other cars I have had & those I still have the Disco 3 is far far slower
Disco 2's - almost instant
Jag XK - about 30 secs & fully clear at minus 12
Disco 3 - it does get there but not fast enough to be practical
if you have to sit & wait you may as well be scraping ice away
also - I never realised the washer jets on my 4 year old disco were heated....BREXIT - done properly.

Can anyone tell me exectly how it looks like when the heated screen is working properly as I have only owned the car for a few months.
I have found that I seem to only have a visible line clearing down the screen that runs roughly in line with the passenger centre console arm rest. Dont know if its working properly?

Ice clears apart from a thin (about 1cm) strip down very middle of screen (on mine anyway)
There where some issues with missing areas due to cables not fitted correctly or fuses ISTR

I thought mine was taking too long to melt the ice from the windscreen. Tried again following day when iced up but this time turned off the MAX setting leaving only the front and rear screen defrost active. Literally 2 minutes max to clear it compared to 4 to 5 ish minutes when the MAX setting is on. Top tip then is turn MAX off until screen defrosts if your after a quick get-away.

my heated screen works fine on the D4.
However I have noticed that once the rear has been on (and gone off again) any spray that is thrown up on the rear screen dries as if the rear heater is still on.
I have noticed this an hour into a journey when the heater indicator lamp has been out for50 mins or so..
does this mean the heater is still on?Wot's that in Old Money

I had the same problem, but had a low battery due to jump starting a friends car from mine and not going for a good long run afterwards, after a good recharge screen defrosted very quickly, like on the D3 - I think it may be one of the "non-essential" things that the vehicle shuts down if the battery charge is low

That's exactly what happens, as battery capacity decreases the battery smart system starts to disable features it doesn't think are vital. This includes the front screen heater. The switch indicator will still come on however.2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE
