Front fogs?

I have noticed a switch just to the left of the rear fog lamp switch which when pressed makes a green front fog lamp signal come on in the dash. Sitting behind the wheel that seems to be the only affect it has. For sure I can't see any better in fog. Has anyone found a purpose for this switch?

I doubt that 90% of drivers know when & why to use their front fog lights.

Clue...

It's not during the day!

The light from mine is way too yellow to use compared with the main beam and LEDs without feeling some embarrassment !

We've had some real pea souper fog (at night) in the past week and I have attempted to see the difference with and without the front fog lamps to no avail. Just a vague re-colouring of the area illuminated by the headlamps just beyond the bonnet line.

Maybe bigger bulbs?

Back when I were a lad, Sad in Oz the foglamps were wired through the parking lamps circuit and would not work when the headlamps were on. It would seem that this has changed.

My understanding was that the foglamps were used when the reflection from the headlights by the fog was too great.

Best Wishes,

It seems to be getting far more common to do this and it's really p Censored ing me off now. You would think the term "fog" would give a hint as to their use.

Front fogs should normally really help in a proper (<100m visibility) fog by illuminating close in the near kerb/white lines and help when you are having to drive much slower because of the fog and the headlamps are really illuminating too far ahead in these conditions and creating too much backscatter. But haven't tried them in the D4 yet as not seen a fog anything like that this year!

talking of fogs - the glass on mine has broken - does anyone know where I can get replacements with replacing the whole unit or do the range rover fog light units fit my 2005 55 plate disco 3

thanks
