AndrewW no offence taken mate, I am a total 4 x 4 newbie and accept the advice, asked the question as people were discussing "protection". Although I do have experience of moving parts and much bigger things with wheels....Smile

Russell, thanks mate, I got it as part of the "deal" dealer threw it in, no money spent.

edit, the material I was talking about is actually called Guard X (sp) they have already applied it to the paintwork and interior.

A word of caution regards this chap, if I remember there was a post on here recently with a thread to another LRO website that trashed this guy's abilities and customer services Shocked

i'm sure someone will find the post in a minute Thumbs Up

Yep!

BTW I had Rustmaster (refered to earlier in thread) do my D2 and they did a very good job. I watched it being done (glad I paid someone to do it, yucky job!)

Been down the Rustmaster route (Knutsford depot). They spend a full day cleaning off and WaxOyling (hard oil-rig marine grade wax {£1000 for 45 gallon drum, apparently} on the outside, 150psi vaporised interior WaxOyl in all the hollow bits).

Good points - very detailed clean-off and dry underneath (2 hours) - all areas covered inside and out - a grade of WaxOyl not available to the public - 5 year guarantee - free annual check / touch-up - holographic window sticker to prove it's been done ( ^ resale value etc...) - I'll swear the road noise is less - electric windows quieter. Best point is you don't end up with a useless patchwork quilt of underbody cover, and no WaxOyl in your hair Very Happy

Bad points - it IS £520ish + VAT for a D3 - it does take a full day - BUT in my view the money will be recouped at re-sale or in prolonged rust-free ownership.

So much so that we did have our 2 brand new Mountain Rescue 110 Utility Station Wagons done at the outset (and our Rescue Team thinks long and hard before spending a grand!)

Hopefully this will keep all my virginal Fe(+++) atoms out of the clutches of any wandering randy O-- ions Shocked
