BFG AT or ContiCross Contact AT?
Does anyone have any views on the Continental ContiCross Contact AT vs. the BFG AT? It'lll be used for tar roads and dirt roads (70/30 tar/dirt) and perhaps a little 4x4ing here and there, but that's not a major concern.
I can get the Contis now at a reasonable price, but the BFGs will not be here for another six weeks and are more expensive. More importantly, the BFGs are oversized at 265/65/18 while the Contis are the correct size. The BFG will only fit underneath deflated and will make the odometer and speedometer incorrect (I've checked my odo against my GPS and it's pretty much spot on).
Is the BFG worth the potential downsides? Or should I just go with the Contis? I can't reall seem to find any strong opinions regarding the Contis....?

My money would be on BFG, how much tread does the conti come with? BFG would be 13mm plus, more rubber for ya money and will survive potholes. Did you look at Firestone destination comes in 265/60/18 see http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic56883.html?highlight=firestone ( my second choice)
Standard size is Pirelli ATR the best option in my book. DSL swear by conti's in 17" tell us how your choice turns out!A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

I love the road Conti, Cross Contact 4x4 ISTR (never used the AT ones). Tough as old boots, good in most non extreme conditions (excellent in soft sand) and best of all lots of sidewall so much better ride than 18s & 19s on our potholed roads.
For AT type tyre Pirelli ATR are my choice. Again not as good as MTRs in extreme mud or snow but brill in most other situations. Now standardising on ATRs but keeping a set of Contis for future Tunisia trips once everything is settled down.

BFG AT's... awesome tyre, especially in the durability department. They're almost indestructible! Had them on my Defender and took everything I could throw at them. Have them ordered for my D3 now, should be here in a couple of weeks.

Thanks guys - I must say I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do!! I know the BFGs are stronger than the Contis, but they are oversized which presents its own problems.... And do I really need stronger tyres??
Also, it seems the Contis are more readily available - or at least, that size is more readily available.....
A tough one!
