And who exactly is paying for all that poncy self self-congratulatory rubbish, we all know the Discovery is the best, and they did by the sound of the crowd, why do they need a huge up, and meal by the look of it at 'someone else's' expense in these times of austerity, I can see certain green eyed groups being given more ammunition against the 'fat cat' 4x4 drivers
The 4x4's on the road in the severe weather conditions did more for Land Rover than any of this tosh, and it didn't cost them a penny, it was all done for them. Perhaps LR giving a free service or such like to any Land Rover seen driving in severe conditions would have been a nice touch

Hmmm... not hard to beat the X3 (which isn't even the best 4x4 BMW make) and the Santa Fe (which seems to be sold more in 2WD form than 4WD as far as I can see)... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)
2005 D3 S 10-12 (gone and missed)

I think both of the other motors are perfectly viable ...the new X3 is a vast improvement and the the Hyundai is very good value for money.
They summed it up when they said that of all the current 4x4 models available ....one is outstanding
The forthcoming RR Evoque won "most exciting new car 2011" 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG - If the D3 was up against them instead of the D4, do you think the D3 would win, or is the D4 just so superior just to make D3 owners feel better

The D3 won the same category 2004 to 2009 .....overall, this is the 7th year on the trot the Disco has won so I don't think anyone needs to feel better 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

As a general everyday road going 4x4 the X3 is not bad. I was accompanied by my colleague driving an X3 throughout the recent snow events in Scotland, whilst we were doing business up there, he got it everywhere that my D3 went, without any drama.
Ok, in the mud and ruts it would be rubbish, but he used half the fuel that I did.

X3 is way better than the X5
Last Jan X3 in the snow was fun
last December X5 stayed on the Drive
In fact its first outing was today at least it started on the button doubt the D3/Defner would have done that
