Studded winter tyres with 17" rims

I have been having very hard times finding 17" aftermarket rims suitable for Disco. Tyre dealers always comes up 18" rims claming that brake caliber do not fit in. For 18" rims they recommend 255/60/18" Nokian SUV5 studded winter tyres.

Question mainly for forums nordic members; is it really so limited tyre options for Disco? Whole 18" package seems to settle around 1900€, is it fair price level?

Antti

p.s. Original 17" rims are of budget and yes, I want two set of rims so that I can make a switch for tyres when ever I want to.

Thanks for the tip jacob! Just to make sure I got it right, do you mean BMW:s original rims for X-5 or X-3?

I'd be surprised if either of the wheels from those light-weight (in comparison) spanglemobiles are upto the requirements of the D3 (rear axle 1875kg). Check with your local BMW dealer as to the rating, as you wouldn't want your insurance company to wriggle out of paying for any problems caused by failing wheels.

Although this topic and this topic are old and deal with aftermarket 22" wheels, the point about LR warranty avoidance is still valid. You might also find yourself with legal issues w.r.t. local vehicle legislation.

ARCFRO hello,

yes, i mean original rims frm BMW X-5, X-3 will fit as well
however is better to try frm x-5 first, since this car is more close
to d3 weight.

usualy the owners of x-5/x-3 do not like the 17'' rims as originaly fitted
to new cars, and almost immidiately changed them fr 19''/20''/22''
so their price is very cheep. fyg bought mine around euro 300
set of 5 rims, (incl the spare).

i use them with m/t tyres, and hv test them almost 3 months now
frm very very difficuld situation(offroad), to normal tarmac roads.

regards
jacob

I have looked in to this too. My dealer quoted approx €2700 for "Style 1" 18" alloys with Nokian Hakka SUV.

Seems there are very few aftermarket rims capable of handling the D3s weight. If you find any, please let me know.

The Hakka SUV tires are awesome. I tested them last winter on the dealers RRS... Embarassed
