AA Gold Cover

Hi all,

I have just picked up a gleaming V8 HSE, which I'm pleased as punch with. It comes with a 3 month warranty with the AA. The cover is 'Gold' standard, which has several exclusions but does include breakdown cover.

The dealer that I bought the car from has offered to extend the warranty cover for 6 months (£399), 12 months (£699) or 2 years (£999).

Does anyone know whether this is a good deal? The 2 year option seems tempting at that price. There are exclusions such as the cat, turbo (n/a in my case), AC, Sat Nav and a few other items. These items can be added at extra cost though.

I've read a few posts here and on the one hand some people suggest buying a Warranty Direct, and on the other hand some people suggest banking a few quid every month to pay for items.

The car is an '05, with 40k miles and has a full service history.

The other thing to mention is that I think I would rather continue to use a local mechanic, rather than a main dealer. This is because I have used him for 4 years on my previous car (a Lexus RX300) and he has been excellent. He drives a TDV6 RRS, if that makes any difference to his knowledge too.

Any advice?

Ring the AA yourself for a qoute, that will save you paying the dealers mark up.

One of the big pluses re Warranty Direct is that they cover (and for me pay out for) wear & tear after 90 days. They have a weird way of doing things, you do an online quote then get a ridicules 4 fig price, then wait for the call for today's special - often half that. Treat em mean & keep em keen. Thumbs Up

I had to threaten them with the insurance ombudsman last time I tried to claim, they were ridiculous, they came out with truly stupid reasons why they didn't want to pay Evil or Very Mad
