Tires options in Cpt area |
|
Over the weekend I got a lovely sidewall cut on a Hankook 255/60/18 so my credit card is waiting from some tire shop to steal my money. Choices include getting a new crap tire or exchange the lot for 265/65/18 BFG ATs. The cheapest I could find for the BFGs is R2800 per tire (West Coast tires). Anyone know of other places in the Cape Town area that might have better prices?

Are 265x65x18 tyres a comfortable replacement option without them touching? (as opposed to the OE 255x60x18) 1998 Disco 1 V8 A

I have BFG 265/65/18 ATs on and I have only once experienced a bit of touching when driving in Namibia with a caravan in tow. One sometimes misjudges the sharp angles of some of the "driffies" on the Namibian dirt roads... A bit of touching the plactic of the wheel arch at the top, but no problems at slower speeds. I suspect that a slight suspension lift (hint to Baben ) may solve this.
Just keep in mind that on this size you need to deflate the spare tyre to fit underneath the car.

TBH, I doubt a suspension lift on its own will sort this out - you need stiffer dampers in the rear as well, and even with this combination it will probably still hit under severe conditions.
But if you wanna pop round for a couple of hours of fiddling with the faultmate and your suspension, lemme know

I have Cooper STT's (BFG don'r make a small enough mud tyre in 18 ") and they are not too noisy

If truth be told its those awful zoom-pipes of yours that mask the STT noise
