Is d4 better than d3
Is the d4 a much better car than the d3. Or to put it another way is it worth the extra £25k that it will cost me After trading in my d3. What do yo think d4 owners.

Lots of peeps had an early D3 and changed it or a later one at, say, 3 years. This would be the same.

I bought a D4 in December and it is definitely a better drive, agree it is a face lift, its also an engine lift as well, but its a good one, botox it isnt!
It drives and handles so much better, have just completed a 3000 mile round trip in it and I dont know how they have done it but it so much better than the D3. It can be driven and be just as economical as the D3 and possibly a bit more, BUT it is so much more powerful that you tend to use the power and therefore more fuel!
I know they are meant to be limited to 112 mph, but on the Autobahn last week it was frequently sat at 120 mph, Tomtom not speedo and when I tried, in the interests of all the folks on here I got it up to 133 mph on the Tomtom. Over 105 in the D3 and I always felt it was "skittish" and on sweeping bends could be quite unnerving, the D4 never felt anything but planted.
So would I change, YES, will you get better economy, only if you turn into an old git! I averaged 21mpg on the autobahn and 26.5 over the whole week.

Save the money and put it in your pension. 40% on £25k - yes please.
I had the same dilemma and decided to keep my 93K 05 S and put the difference into my pension. Boring? Maybe but I've lost so much money buying premium cars over the last 10 years that it seems silly to keep doing it, particularly as mine does exactly what a D4 will do. My only indulgence was a BAS remap, deCat and an Allisport intercooler. I'd put that against any d4 any day!

Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to have a new car, it always is. I'm sure there is some narcotic in the new car smell. I'd not change it coz it's a newer version of same car but might think about it for a new model. Mind you that (whenever & if it happens) will take us all into to the unknown. Maybe better the devil you know etc.

Picked mine up to day but only had to pay £12K more than my last one . Its a lot more car although same spec. More refined engine interior and just fantastic to drive. I think you need go try one and make your decision then .

The D4 is IMHO a better car than the D3 and well worth the extra £25K. I cannot remember how many physical differences there are between the D3 and D4 but I do remember than there were quite a few. For me the D4 was more than a facelift. For me the difference was instantly noticeable when I did a test drive. It was like going from the D2 to the D3. The performance beats the D3 hands down (600NM of torque) without being chipped. The interior quality is a definite improvement on the D3. Please don’t get me wrong the D3 was an outstanding vehicle the D4 is just simply better. End of story.

It was that journey of 'discovery' into the unknown back in 2005 that was so much fun
... like a new teenage relationship, where you keep finding out new things & every day is something new.
Remember being dumbstruck about just what absurd obstacles the D3 could overcome?
And then finding all those weird places that Welsh mud could stick
Somehow the thought of starting over with a D4 doesn't hold the same allure ... not to the extent of parting with £25k+ for the privilege.
Now a D5 / Icon .... Bring it on Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

I think the only way to deal with this urge for a new car is to go along and test drive the Discovery 4 and see if the sales dept. can make me an offer I can't refuse. Mane wait till they have to meet their end of month quota if that still happens with LR.
