Little LED / Light at the front of the interior light module

Hi, whats the Little LED / Light at the front of the interior light module for ??

Saw it by accident in a reflection off of my phone.

Just points down but does not illuminate anything

Anyone

It's just ambient lighting.

It illuminates the area around the gearlever and TR/suspension controls/cup holders.

You can only really notice it working if you are driving in complete darkness (in city driving it's not really visible).

If not invented by, then certainly popularised by the German luxury market. My previous BMWs and Mercs had them. Mind you, they were both warmer glows and seemed to have more of an effect than the D3/D4 ones. I didn't even notice I had one for a good while in the D3... 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)

I've had two D3's & never noticed it at all.

Must be worth putting it in i'm sure..
