HK stereo stopped working
Hi, a month ago the HK stereo in my 2005 2.7SE stopped working. The head unit appears to be working fine but nothing coming from any of the speakers, not even any hiss. My independent dealer diagnosed a blown amp so on his recommendation I paid for a new one. I've just fitted it (disconnected the battery first just to be safe) and it's still not working. The only thing I have noticed is the part numbers are slightly different so I'm wondering of it needs to go on to a computer to get it to recognise the new hardware? I've checked and there's definitely power going to the amp.
Any help would be most welcome as it looks like I've just wasted £300.

Hiya wormus
The Amp or vehicle does not need re programming for a simple swap out and the different part number is also not a problem.
Is your touch screen coming on ok and working?
If you unplug the 2 Pin connector to the right (looking from the rear) with the two thick orange cables (Actually fibre optic cables) and look at the end of the plug, you should see a Red light. As you bring it close enough to the Amps socket the light will jump the gap and you should see a light come on from the Amp on the other pin.

Thanks. The screen is working fine and when I turn on the head unit the left hand fibre optic lights up. Doesn't matter how close I put it to the amp, the other pin stays dead. Any ideas?

When you have the Fibre optic connector unplugged at the Amp, does the screen no longer work, as in it hangs on the LR Logo?
if this is so it proves your Fibre optic loop is working fine.
Next guess is that you have a speaker problem that is causing the Amp to shut down, but this should have been picked up by reading fault codes from the Amp.

Cheers. I'll try that tomorrow as it's dark now. I tried to see if the head unit would tell me anything by pressing and holding the right hand knob. I don't know if it's significant but under DTC it came up with the following:
E00325
E00381
DA0362
E00331
Does this mean anything?

I tried disconnecting the fibre optic cable and the sat nav hung on the Land Rover screen like you said it should. I also noticed that when I plugged it back in again a corresponding red light could be seen coming from the amp. In other words, everything looks to be working normally. Any ideas or should I give up and take it to a dealer?
I must admit I've never known a car to have such unreliable electrics as this. I'm tempted to trade it in for a Toureg.

That's good news on the Most Bus Testing wormus.
You have proven that the Bus is working fine and even that the Amp is powering up and closing the loop. It narrows it down significantly.
I don't know if the Head unit can self report DTC's for other ECU's on the Most Bus or not, but it's a good starting place.
You might think these DTC's must be related somehow, but sadly as anyone with experience reading DTC's with their own equipment can tell you, most ECU's on the vehicle accumulate a number of spurious error codes due mainly to common momentary communication glitches.
I don't recognize the codes format, looks like Raw hex, but give me a day or two to see what i can find out for you

Thanks, that's really kind. Must admit to being out of my depth. At one point during my experiments the sat nav stopped working but I fixed it by disconnecting and connecting the battery. Thanks again.

No worries wormus
Happy to help anyone on here as much as i can on this kinda stuff, that's what being a member and helping each other is all about.
You may well feel a bit out of your depth, but already you have done brilliantly in self testing the Most Bus and narrowing down the true source of your problem. I only hope i can ultimately help you find and fix it yourself
If it helps you to know, and gives you a bit more confidence in my advice and abilities to help, i would most humbly tell you, if you did not already know, that i am not exactly inexperienced with the D3's electronics, especially in regard to it's wiring and Infotainment system.
Here are a few links to posts i have made about my modifications to my own D3's electronic systems.
The battery disconnection is common and it helps if you short the leads together for a minute or so, to perform what is commonly known as a Hard Reset.

Wow, that's impressive and more than just a little bit nuts. I look forward to your response

Impressive it might seem, but nuts, definitely not.
When you boil it all down to the basics, the D3 is only a bit of trim held in by a few screws and clips to the body shell, a few ECU's and a some wiring that connects them together. It is really nothing for anyone to be afraid of.
The fibre optic Most bus aspect is by a long way the most difficult and advanced, and is a stumbling block many franchised dealers cannot handle and get beyond, and and you have already mastered checking that out much better than most.
Sadly, despite my best efforts, and spending quite some time on trying, i have been unable to correlate your codes into anything related to the diagnostic codes we normally deal with.
Your next step is therfore to find someone able to read the DTC codes from your amplifier.

I took it to my local independent today and they plugged the computer into it. Under Infotainment/amplifier settings it said it didn't recognise the new hardware: 8H32-19C164-AA which is the same code printed on the sticker of the new amp. It suggested downloading some new software updates or something? Anyway, I've left it there and they will set it up on Monday. Fingers crossed. It's not plug and play as we first thought.
