I have just had a claim on an independent warranty thrown back at me because the garage took longer than the time quoted in Autodata. The job was to replace front N/S & O/S suspension bushes and a rear suspension arm on a 6 year old D3 with 98,000 miles on the clock. My local garage refused to quote a fixed time as he only charges £32 per hour and that sort of job can be either dead easy or it could be a pig due to seized bushes etc. As it happened, it was a pig and the job took 8 man hours against the 2.2 hours quoted in Autodata.
Having spoken to a few mechanics, many of them say that the Autodata times are “best†times for a new vehicle and very seldom could an independent mechanic meet the Autodata times on an older vehicle. I want to contest the insurance company’s argument but need some evidence that the Autodata times are unreasonable and are therefore an unfair time to use for a vehicle of this age. I don’t have access to Autodata so am asking if any of you guys know of any Autodata disclaimers which say that the times are subject to………????
Any help would be gratefully received

I had mine done recently and it took about 8 hours as well. O5 car with 93k on clock at the time. my garage also wouldn't give a fixed price because of the same issue.
I'd go back to them and ask what criteria the data is based on. Age of vehicle, complexity, known data etc.

AFAIK, Autodata times are the same as RTS (Land Rover's own times) and RTS was a joke... They were all done by LR techs, in an LR factory, on brand new (or pre-production) vehicles, so no seizures etc to worry about
There was a lot of jobs you could quite easily have doubled the time on, and still have been nowhere near...
The best one I can remember was a front diff on a TD6 FFRR. 3.2 hours to remove and replace the complete diff
Then there was a recall issued where you had to remove the diff, strip and rebuild it, then refit. And the time?
