London LEZ compliance

Has anyone else had a letter from our illustrious mayor of London (Via the DVLA) proclaiming -

" Vehicle registration mark xxx xxx ... According to our records, your vehicle does not meet the required standards. blah .. blah .. " Question

Among the options to meet the standards are " upgrading your vehicle to a newer model or pay a £100 daily charge" Shocked Shocked

Now I don't venture into London often but since the LEZ now encompasses most of the area within the M25, "dipping a toe in the water" is now almost inevitable occasionally and I really don't want to get stuck with a £100 charge for a minor indiscretion and I've no intention of giving up my Disco.

In the enclosed booklet , it says you can "check if your vehicle meets the emissions standards by logging on to
tfl.gov.uk/lezlondon "

Whereupon entering the same reg number as in the letter (of my Disco 3,) - lo and behold -

" 03 Jan 2012 to onwards Not Subject to LEZ "

I would like to think that the conflicting information is due to a mistake somewhere since the website says it's not subject to the LEZ charge, but I wonder how many people might get charge notices and end up paying them because they've not checked properly.

Is it a simple mistake or outdated info - or is there something more sinister going on here.

Disco 3 should be OK, but pre-2002 D2 and series vehicles might get caught for it - ouch!

Didn't think it applied to cars, thought it was commercials and things derived from them like campervans??

PS Assume we're talking about commercials?? Question

Ah, London. Vaguely remember that place as I sit looking out from Blackwaterfoot over the sea to Mull of Kintyre. The sun is out, the birds are tweeting and the seals are basking. Only down side is the gull enjoying sitting on top of our car! Shocked Shocked Rolling Eyes

it also says -

- Larger vans
- Motorised horseboxes
- 4x4 light utility vehicles
- Pick-ups
- Other specialist vehicles

so not necessarily only commercials, but it also says -

"If your vehicle was registered on or after 1 January 2002, it will meet the Euro 3 emissions standards and you can drive within the LEZ without taking any action."

So that lets all our D3's out anyway.

I inadvertently tagged "commercial" into anything other than a car classification ..so you are perfectly right Thumbs Up
