Non starter
Complete newbie on here but hope someone can help. My disco does not turnover when I turn the key. The battery was replaced in august last year and I have charged it overnight so think this is not the problem. When I turn the key the dashboard lights look normal but I noticed that the hazard warning lights come on. I have tried the second key and this does not work either. One other thing is that the heater controls (fan etc) are not working with the ignition on. I'm thinking maybe a fuse but no idea which one to check.

Must be something in the air today - I thought my battery had gone flat due to 'ere indoors trying numerous times to get the tailgate to open (see a separate post) so connected to the other car for a jump.
Didn't start but now when I insert and turn the key I get 4-ways and some rapid clicking from (auto) gearstick but no warning lights etc etc.
In a nutshell, it would seem that the very first day we've gone to use the Disco . . . . . . it's dead!!
(BTW if I had seen this very useful website before I bought the Disco . . . . . I wouldn't have bought it!)

Could the switch that does not let it start if it's not in P and four on brake. I'm assuming it is in P and with foot on brake!.

Thanks for quick response. I just double checked and yes it is in park with p showing on dashboard. The aa will be here soon so will see what wise words I get from him.
Warranty ran out in feb so my decision to save the money and see what happens has turned out not to be so wise

mine failed a few years back due to too much wading. working fine one day then the next day nothing - just clicking noise as solenoid tried to engage.Duncan

I can confirm that I was carrying out the correct start procedure
Tonga, please tell the AA man to hurry up - they told me he would be here at 1605hrs but he must've been diverted to yours!!!
BTW during a couple of the start attempts I had all dashboard lights etc then they went, then came back and now there is zilch, nil, nowt!!!
I can feel a 'quick change' coming on - "Defender - standby, standby!"
