looks like its been painted - quite a lot. Something looks wrong - but cheap enough. recommend a good search of its history and a paint thickness tester!

Lemon.
If it's got air suspension problems, you can add another grand to get that sorted properly (compressor, sensors, loom).
Also, he could have saved a fortune by using an indie for most of those jobs.No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!

What's the worst case with the suspension then? Compressor and height sensors all round? Is there a valve block on these?
I'm actually quite tempted for the right price 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

£8k will buy it tonight otherwise its off to a specialist LR breakers who have offered just under this. The chap is genuinely fed up with trying to find the issues and his wife is clearly fed up with the expenditure thus far so he's cutting his losses at what he paid for it prior to spending all that dosh on him
BTW, he is a forum member and has used every bit of info to try and trace the problems

Sounds like air suspension works, but it just won't track straight.
Could be something simple like the steering position sensor. If this is not calibrated or is faulty then it will not stay centered from what I have heard and will wander.
Need to hook it up to calibrate it.
I assume nothinh is bent from whatever made it a CAT D
