Have got a USB stick in the D4 with my music on but is seems to have a mind of its own as to whether it plays on start up
I'm assuming it should pick up where it left off playing music which it does 70% of the time. Other times, it seems to eiher restart at the first track or just gives me "Connecting to USB" but doesnt actually make the connection.
Not a critical issue, just annoying. Any other experiences before I hassle the dealer. Am going to try another stick in a day/two

Mine does both that from time to time as well as the following:
While happily playing 'Random All' it sudddenly starts to play a particular album (folder) in it's entirety.
While playing 'Random Folder' it reverts to playing them in order.
On start-up it has forgotten where it was last time so starts playing from root.
I must say it's only minor niggles and you can easily correct the issues by once again selecting the required mode.
When the USB won't connect which happens perhaps once every 2 months I just unplug the memory stick & then plug it back in again.

I just remembered, when I first installed the memory stick for the car, it had connection issues more often. It's almost as if the car had to get used to it! Weird I know!
How long have you been using that particular memory stick?

How large is the stick you are using? It is fairly well known on the forum that large (32-64 GB) sticks are at the edge of the performance envelope for the memory of the D4 Nav/entertainment system. The work around is to always switch off in any mode other than USB. When starting up, allow a few minutes for the stick to connect and then select the uSB option and you'll have no problem. Any other way and you'll have the symptoms you describe.

Very similar here on Jan 2010 D4. Running a USB device and occasionaly forgets where it is up to on start-up and plays from track 1. And about once a month is can't connect, and just needs to be unplugged, rebooted, and plugged back in.
A minor niggle only... 747_JK

Hey Gang,
Just thought I'd chime in here. It depends on the memory stick brand, as well as which OS you formatted the USB stick with. I;ve got 4 USB sticks that I've have varying degrees of issues with. I'm going to sort out the issues and post an wiki artcile on how to make it work all the time.

I agree with xetas, I have found it really seems to make a differrence on the make of stick. Neither of my Kingston brand (8 - 16gb) will work at all or very intermittently, my Corsair (16gb) works perfectly and my PNY (32gb) also works with no problems. Have tried some unbranded sticks and some work some don't, just trial and error l'm afraid.
