North Yorkshire Moors green lanes.

I was looking at spending a weekend in the Whitby/Scarborough/Guisborough area, and was wondering if it is a good area for some green lanes? I have the maps for the area, but was wondering on the status of the lanes. Are most of them TRO'd ?

Any info would be appreciated before I go and badger the ROW officer.

Very good pictures Gaz, but it would be good to know where they are, and if they are legal Thumbs Up

There are lots of ORPA's on the map and very few Byways. The council's on line map shows all the byways (all 7km of them!) but sadly does not indicate the status of the ORPA's.

Gareth,

Drop williekerslike a line, he has a PDF of a nice circular route including Rudland Rigg. I understand he drives them regularly and will be able to update on TRO's etc. We used a similar route a couple of months back and it was ideal for a family trip.

I think Ronp has links with the parks authority and will have suitable info too.

When are you thinking of going? I may be up for a trip if I'm off the rig...

There was a thread early in the year about interest in a spring green lane trip around the moors and there was a massive response, but all has gone very quiet. I'd be interested in a small scale group trip.

Ronp asked if there was interest in a tour of the Moors & surrounding area earlier in the year, I think it was more road based than green lanes.

A trip could certainly be done but it is starting to get towards the busy season with more chance of disturbing the ramblers. Confused

If the trip is on roads how will it disturb the ramblers? They really should not be in roadways - especially with all the griping they have done that has resulted in almost everything that isn't a roadway being under some form of restriction.

It must be some form of fetish to want to walk on roadways - there is even a walking day in June being organised on the M74!

@Navigator,

Ronp's proposed trip (from the thread earlier in the year) was road based around the Moors & Howardian Hills - no issue with ramblers etc. Thumbs Up

Gareth was interested in green lanes in the area. A trip could be organised for this, I was just pointing out it is starting to get near the busy season on the tracks & green lanes and for the benefit of cross party user relations it may be better to do it sooner rather than later. Wink

Yes, I'd be interested in a trip involving Green Lanes as well as roads. However, it would need to be organised by someone in the area, as I don't have a clue about all these usage restrictions. We just don't do it that way in Scotland.

Just not had time to put my proposed trip together.
Initial enquires would've made it difficult with such big numbers.
But as mentioned, mine was a road trip taking in the smaller roads & sites, but with a few lanes added.

Gareth, as mentioned, Pete [willyeckerslike] is your man.
He'll no doubt gladly take you around the [legal] lanes in the North East area of the NP.
But dates would depend on whether he's on-shore.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
