Who's has been the most reliable?!

While this forum is a rock for when we're all worried. It can also be depressing reading about a car that we love but sound as if we hate with all the problems. So, I wonder if it'll be interesting to know the positive - WHO'S GOT THE MOST RELIABLE D3?!! Very Happy

I'm really interested to know who can claim to have had the least amount of things done/replaced/fixed that were non-serviceble (ie, tyres, battery, exhaust etc) for the longest serving amount of time!

Any offers?!

Pelyma. That's an impressive start I think.

Davro. I'm sure youre right! Laughing

Mine's 7 yrs old in Nov. Had one of those free LR visual health checks. There was a list, but I thought I'd got off lightly and had been blessed!.... just a bit of play in a track arm, missing fuel tank heat shield (£20), couple of rubber seal things and the inevitable coolant indicator float thing. But, my tailgate button is getting cranky so that may go soon. Hoping it holds out until Christmas as I'm saving up for the big service and cam belt.

Now this is a good post.

I'm still in the position where I'm wanting to buy a Disco 3 to replace my Disco 2. I've come on to this site to learn. I realise that, as Jim1000 intimates, many contributors are posting about problems and (hopefully) solutions, but that gives a skewed perspective that everyone has problems.

I think to myself that a Disco 3 is really what I want, then I lie in bed at night thinking I should get something inferior but more reliable and break out in a cold sweat thinking of EPB's, blanking plates, bodies being lifted off, electrical gremlins, limp home mode and so forth.

So let's hear from the silent majority. Are you out there all you D3/4 owners with no troubles? If so, set the record straight and post a quick line here.

On Top Gear this week J Clarkson was taking the mick out of MG owners and how they secretly hope something goes wrong just so they can get their fingers dirty. Maybe LR owners are similar!

Owned from new, 07MY D3 XS, sold at 3 years old with 75k on the clock.

In that time I had driven to Greece once and the south of France twice.

I had to have the EGR valves replaced under warranty at 55k
One new set of tyres at 38k

...and thats it!

No brake pads, (although the light came on the week I traded it) Thumbs Up

I obviously had no qualms in buying the D4!

The first 18mths of mine (from brand new) was hell with limp mode problems and xyz switch, it was then, after numerous other attempts to fix including turbo actuator, fitted with a new turbo and switch, never had a problem since, so a year of enjoyment really hence nothing to report on here.................at the moment on 15,000 miles (fingers crossed) Thumbs Up

Well, mine has never failed to get me home, even when the rear bearing collapsed (Did make left corners interesting).

But can't claim to have not replaced anything in the last 15months or so. Whistle

Have said it on here before, but my parents have had about 10 Disco's & 3 FFRR's in the last 20 years. They live up an unmade track on a welsh mountainside, on the shady side, so when it snows in the winter it sticks & stays! Currently my mum & dad are both running D4's, having each traded their D3's last month. Running "proper" 4x4's are essential. They have 13 acres of mixed grass & woodland and probably a mile of fencing to maintain. My dad also has a tractor to tow various bits of equipment on their land which slopes quite steeply in places. A couple of years ago when the tractor was having its gearbox rebuilt he used a Disco to tow the grass cutters etc. He still uses the D3/D4 to patrol the fence line etc (they have sheep some of the time).

In 20 years they have also towed twin axle caravans all over Europe.

In that 20 years they have had two faults! A folding seat mechanism on the 3rd row seating in a D3, fixed under warranty, and on his D4XS now, the clock loses time, the dealer thinks its a software glitch.

They would not consider any other make of 4x4.

Just hoping my D3 can live up to a reputation like that, just the EGR valves replaced at the moment! Living with my fingers crossed and saving hard for a D4... Thumbs Up
