Have you spoken to your warranty about whether or not they will pay for a new engine if it has seized?

Warranty direct will send an engineer to investigate, the car then gets taken to WD engine rebuild specialist who will disassemble and find actual cause, and build a new engine using as many of the undamaged components as they can to reduce cost from what i can gather...
LR told me that a new engine is around £6k i think its gold plated and comes with the M16 crank that replaced the old M14 bolt through the crank that is the cause of the failure...... according to a funny naked Indian who appeared in my dream...

I wonder why WD require a certificate, particularly since the Government says:-
Quote:
The certificate is no longer proof of an MOT and shouldn’t be relied on as such. Only the computer record can prove a vehicle has a valid MOT. You’ll also be given an Advisory Notice for any recommended repairs for the vehicle at the time of the test.
If WD choose to ignore the above you can obtain a copy of the certificate from any MOT testing station for the fee of £10. You’ll need to provide the vehicle registration mark and reference number shown on your registration certificate (V5C).
Good luck

Surely if Warranty had expired they wouldn't be asking for an MoT, and if MoT had expired a few days before the engine blew then it's not really relevant?

I wonder if The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 might apply.
In particular the requirement of good faith - possibly worth talking to CAB or a solicitor if any claim is being rejected on this ground.

In the policy it is a condition of the warranty to have a valid MOT at time of claim. If you were driving the car without a MOT on the public road then you may have trouble getting them to pay as they will claim it failed while driving illegally. If you had a MOT booked for that day you might find a get out clause.
It is pretty bad luck to have that happen within a few days of the MOT expiring. I hope you find a solution.

I know how this feels!
happened to me today at 1am!
ticking noise from engine pulled over, engine seized solid!
dropped the sump of today after getting it recovered and the sump was full of big end bearing caps and swarf.
quick look up through the hole on the baffle plate and atleast one broken con-rod. As said new engine approx 5,500+vat!
