Rotating tyres to wear evenly

If I rotate tyres to evenup wear so that I can change whole set together when time comes, should it just be front to back or diagonally, i.e. rear nearside to front offside etc. That would be logical but just looking at my VW westie camprvan (1989) and it says (I think, ts in German) just swap front to rear on smae side.

Hi Nigel, I seem to remember reading some years ago that you should keep the same side. This way the tyres rotate the same direction and reduce the risk of blow outs. Alas I cannot remember the original source.

Some tyres are unidirectional so should not be swapped to the other side - it will be marked with an arrow on the sidewall if this is the case. I wouldn't worry too much about rotating tyres to be honest but if you want to just swap front with back on the same side. Ideally you want evenly worn tyres on the same axel but it doesn't make as much difference as some people might think.
