Hi All
I'm at a crossroads as regards buying a set of tyres ....
What i want them to do:
I want these tyres for a bit of greenlaning, sometimes a bit more ardious offroading in forestry situation with mud n gravel tracks, and then reasonable tarmac performance. Sometimes I will be leaving them on because i'm too lazy to change over to the road tyres again, or because I plan to go off road fairly soon again. and then the probably most important one , but not my priority , a good tyre for what is becoming our annual deluge of winter snow.
Choices:
I have 17" rims currently wear a set of Cooper STT Discoverer tyres, at the end of their useful life and starting to rot around the bead, also getting infurateingly noisey as the get more worn , so hence the requirement for new rubber
A set of 18" rims that i have no particular love or hate for
A set of 19" RRS rims that I love and currently wearing a set of Mitchillin Synchrones that have yielded unbelieveable milage ... and I mean unbelieveable!!! but dont want to damage offroad, thats what the 17"'s are for !
and a set of 20" stormers ( not suited to the job )
Realistically its the 17"'s or 18"'s that are gonna get new rubber so whats in the running
I fancy the below list .....
General Grabber AT2
Cooper STmaxx
Cooper STT
Goodtyear MT/R
so heres the question ... who has experience and who recommends what tyre / what combination, I know this ones gonna run n run,and I'll probably be told to go search, but i'm lookin for fresh suggestions , and i have a unique set of options given rim sizes ...... so fire away lads , whos buyin what these days???

I had 17s for off road use and at present use STTs on a defender which aren't too noisy and are pretty good off road until you get to really mucky stuff. If you are looking at either 17 or 18s for off road then why not go for the ones with most choice and the cheapest of the sizes, probably 17s. Joined the BMWX5 45e group
