Hi
New to forum and am wondering mainly from Irish members which horsepower version is in the N1 commercial and have been told by a dealer in Dublin that options on Irish commercial are very restrictive to include only HiIce and that's about all. Is it true that xenons are not available on Irish versions?

Hi there,
All Irish 2012 D4's are coming with the lower powered 210bhp TDV6, for obvious tax and fuel economy reasons. There is currently the 5 seat Commercial, and there is a new 2 seat version coming in early 2012.
Yes, the options list does seem to be limited, however I have noticed that Spirit Motor Group have all the options listed on their price lists for the 5 seat Commercial.
They list Xenons at €1,270. They also have the full Sat Nav at €2,795.
PM me for more details....

Funny you should mention that. I've just heard of plans by our Government over here in Ireland to allow the export of new vehicles out of the country once again - something that was previously impossible for anything that attracted our Vehicle Registration Tax. The 5 seat Commercial attracts VRT at 13.5% and VAT at 21% (rising to 23% in January 2012). So you will in theory be able to purchase one and export on temp plates and save quite a few thousand Euro too!
You need someone over here to help you organise everything..........

Surprised that commercial D4 is not available in UK in 5 seat format as it is a European directive (N1). Don't really understand Euro law but to qualify for a commercial 5 seater in Ireland and to reclaim VAT element(assuming you are registered for VAT) of purchase price you need to use it solely for business purposes and not for private use but this law is very hard to enforce.
If you investigated the possibility of importing a 5 seat D4 from here, be mindful of your Revenue laws regarding taxing same and using it for private use.

Yes, a 5 seat Commercial exported from here may well end up being taxed at the full car rate unless you can convince the DVLA that it remains an N1 Commercial vehicle, of course. Who knows?
Funny thing is that the 5 Seat Commercial in Ireland can only be taxed at the private rate despite it being a Commercial, and that rate is actually more than we now pay on the HSE 7 seat, because as an N1 vehicle being taxed privately the rate is based on the pre CO2 rates, based on engine size!!!! All of the rates are now going up of course, in January 2012!!!!
This vehicle was invented solely for the Irish market as a way to reduce the VRT tax. If there was enough demand for a 5 seat D4 in the UK then they'd probably make them available. Personally I don't see why the demand isn't there as I've always preferred a five seat model to allow for extra boot space!
Mind you, Ireland was the first country in the world to get a 2 seat Discovery Commercial in the first place, back in 1991 due to our tax laws, it became even more popular in 1993 when VRT came along, because it was always exempt until the beginning of this year (2011). The UK didn't bring a Discovery Commercial out until late 1993.... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
