Smoke from exhaust Disco 3 TDV6 HSE |
|
Hi Guys
I went to view a 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 at a dealer. The car had done only 9000Km from new believe it or not, and, so far as I can tell from download reports here in New Zealand, the mileage is genuine. It had done about 1000 km in the last couple of months. Thing is, there was smoke pouring out of the exhaust when we started it and for about 3 or 4 miles when it gradually calmed down but still smoked at bit when revved up. The dealer told me it was normal for these vehicles when they have been unused for a while. There was so much smoke a motorcyclist nearly passed out at the traffic lights!. My gut feeling, not knowing a lot about theses vehicles, was to walk away from the deal, which I did, do you I did the right thing or was the dealer comments genuine?

There is always a bit of smoke from the TDV6, but should only be noticeable under acceleration, even when remapped.
Mine used to smoke a bit if it had been idling for a very long time, say 5 minutes or more, but not for more that a few seconds.
There is something wrong with that vehicle, egr, intercooler pipe or similar. You did the right thing IMO.

You did the right thing.
Could be simple fix. There will be other D3s. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
