EPB, No emergency release!!! |
|
Hi all
Recently changed all wishbones and disks... With a little unwanted help (brothers friend).
The rear disks were a bit hard to pull off (On previous disco i didn't find that!)
I wound in the wheel (and the EPB was switched off)
Anyway, when putting on the new disks, they were very hard to get on. My brothers mate hit them on.
Tried the cable release in the cab and the disks were still seised.
Any help would be appriecated
Im going a bit nuts with it! where theres a wil theres a way!

My brothers mate hit them on.
EEEKKKK...please take my advise and take your vehicle to someone who knows what they are doing.....this will end up costing you big in fried discs, shoes and park brake module/cables if you dont!!!!!

the shoes need to be positioned properly and the the discs will just slip over the top with no effort at all.
I would sack your brothers mate.
are the shoes all seized up, or were the parts moving freely Duncan

Ive done it all before... so I know what im doing
And i can't get someone else to do it as the disks are locked solid and is at the top of my 4 poster!
Its just that im puzzled to why the handbrake shoes wont release even with the emergency release pulled.
The only other thing is that while they were about the EPB switch might of been pulled but Im sure it hasnt been.
When it was having the 105k service it was recommended that the rear disks needed to be changed as had been warped due to heat. My thinking is that the problem was there before ! started doing the work. where theres a wil theres a way!

hi
I think you should download bodsys brake bible this is very good as for hitting the discs on not a good idea you will have probably have now damaged the edge of the brake shoes and might need to replace them.
I hope you held the electric hand brake button down with the ignition on and held it down when you put the ignition off, you should have then waited until the car went to sleep about 10 minutes
You then turn the rear adjusters one one way then the opposte the other way this then lets you take the discs of once of you can then wind them right back.
there is also the little allen key screw you have to slacken to let the shoes relocate you then retighten when you have adjusted the brakes.
There is alot to do to st up the brakes correctly on a D3and to get them to work correctly you will also possibly need to do the bedding in procedure
cheers

You could maybe refer to Bodsys brake bible in case you missed something. Is there not a 4 mm hex screw which you need to adjust as well as the ratchet adjuster mechanism.
good luck.....

Ive done it all before... so I know what im doing
If you know what your doing WHY did you let someone hit them with a hammer
You should always have the technical information at hand before you start a job your not sure about, I would start again using bodsys brake bible.
I have done lots of rear discs, shoesand pad replacement and if you dont wind back the adjuster the disc wont go on, putting the brake in service mode is also important.
Hope you get sorted but deffo remove the hammer from your toolbox

Sounds like when you pulled drum/disc off you pulled the retaining pin through the clips causing the shoes to cockle. Often happens if there was a lip on the edge of the drum face.
If your brothers mate then hammered the new drums on the shoes jam up inside so you carn't turn the wheel. Pulling the emergency cable won't do any good as the fault is with the shoes not the cables.
Only thing to do will be to hammer off the drum/discs and then repair the damage as required, new discs, shoes etc.
