I am fairly sure it is a capacitor of some sort had one burn out on a customers car gave loads of fault codes and would not start. it blew gearbox fuse aswell when i replaced fuse could see smoke coming up the gearbox tunnel so removed it quickly. After replacing the capacitor and clearing codes all was well hope this helps

Seems to be the next popular problem... (the one wizz80 describes).
Well, not as popular a problem as some, but here we have a device*** which does nothing useful for years then bu@@ers th'issue up big style.
Squarely in EGR valve territory!
Unless anyone has removed theirs and had a radio/ECU interference problem?? Anybody?? Then leave it off........

PPS someone more adept at this site could find the diverse threads about this thing and link them somehow. Could be a hidden epidemic 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Hi,
Broke down this evening with HDC, transmission, EPB faults etc. Tried clearing faults, took out brake bulbs, fiddled with the brake pedal switch to see if it was stuck, but fuse 30 in the engine bay kept blowing. On replacing it, I get a burning smell (difficult to locate)...
From the sounds of things and a bit of searching on the Forum, it could be this capacitor issue...
As I understand it, can I just disconnect this black box (temporarily until I replace it)?
Also, how do I find it please?
Many thanks!
