D4 cool-box wiring

I am in the process of installing my ex-D3 coolbox into my D4. Nearly finished but I have gone to connect the wiring (to the plug wrapped in a foam ring) but the wiring is to short. If anyone has done this, did you have to lengthen the wires? Are the D4 cool box connections different to the D3?

Cheers

Thanks all, took the box out again to look at the wiring and despite removing tapes, could not see how to make it longer so decided to cut to the chase and lengthened the wires - and blew a fuse!! So, all installed but not tested.

Are there any spare 10 amp fuses anywhere?

Cheers

The saga continues. Why aren't simple jobs ever simple!!

I have changed the fuse but it still didn't work. Removed everything again to check the wiring and testd 12 to the plug going into the cool box. It was working when I removed it from the D3 so I am stumped. The light in the switch isn't even coming on. Is there ANY reason that this shouldn't turn on? Are there any "triggers" such as ambient temperature, the need to be moving etc., that would prevent operation? Can't believe it has gone faulty, too much of a coincidense.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Team,

The saga continues!!!

So I took the cool box out again - I'm getting good at this!! - to bench test it. I connected it up to my remote charger and it worked!!! Oh joy, it's not faulty!

So, I re-installed it - and it didn't work. I checked the power supply and when the engine was running, there was 12.5 volts to the connector plug. I thought I would measure the output from the test battery and it was 13.3.

Now, over to the techies (Wiggs!). Is this lack of a volt why the fridge doesn't work in the car? The car has been used over the weekend so must be fully charged.

This now has me baffled so any advise gratefully received.

Cheers

The saga ends!!!

Been trying to get my head round this all day. Decided to rig up a temp volt meter to monitor residual and running voltage. So, connected it to the cigar lighter and to my surprise, 13.5 volts. Started the engine and hey presto, 14.5 volts. Looked at the cool box and it cam on!!!

Still baffled but it looks like job-jobbed!!

the car will switch off non essential items if the voltage is low .

Fridge also can take a few mins to come on from starting the car .

Could have just been low voltage while messing around in the car ..the D4 is a very volt hungry beast
