MY12 Virtual CD Changer

Ok, got the new toy since Friday, MY12 HSE. Played around with the audio system, which features a 10x CD changer, where you actually upload each disc once to the harddrive, and then you can remove it. Don't know if this is something which had been already available before.
Anyhow, grabbed an original Stones CD from the shelf, one from the time before music became fully virtual. I put it in and uploaded it, which took quite a while. Removed it, and bingo, the music kept playing. Very nice, but somehow I expected this.

What really impressed me was that the darn thing indeed knows this is Rolling Stones, Undercover, Track: Too much blood.
I mean, how is that possible? These CDs do not provide this information, so either it is already stored in the system or retrieved via internet connection??? Scary, but impressive.

In your manual you'll find a licence for Gracenote - this is the same CD lookup service that iTunes uses.

What I can't work out is if it's some sort of reading of data already stored on the CD, or a lookup - in which case, how will it cope with new releases? Or will it get out of date just like the satnav maps?

I'm pretty sure that there is a fixed database stored in the audio system. This means that it will get out of date. I'm hoping that we'll be able to upgrade the database somehow by putting the new database onto a CD.

Completely off-topic, but you have a very tidy D1 300 Commercial in your avatar... Nice!

Enjoy the D4 - I also have a (non-matching) pair of Discos...
 D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)

Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

Thanks. Its a 1991 200TDI. We picked it up new from the dealer and it served us well on trips throughout Europe and Africa.
Now 20 years later we picked up our second new Discovery Smile
