Smart Key Failure

Morning Gents (and Ladies).

Just had a problem with my Smart Key Evil or Very Mad . The key was not recognised this morning whilst on a visit to the Docs.
After trying the usual things like putting it under the steering coloum etc still no joy. Rang the wife and got her to bring the spare but still the same problem. Rang assist who advised removing fuse 17 from fuse holder behind the glove box and putting back in. Very Happy Joy the system was reset and back on my way. Just thought this my help anybody else that may come across the same problem..

In a similar vein, I thought I had the starting gremlins last week. Came out of Meadowhell shopping centre unlocked the car, got in, foot on brake, pressed button, nada-nothing-zilch. Got out, re-locked, unlocked, got in, still nothing. Just as I'm about to ring the dealer to fetch his pile of cr4p back, I realised I'd been pressing the "mode" button on the audio controls instead of the start button, DOH! In my defence, we had only had the car a week & it was only the second time I'd driven it Embarassed Embarassed

I had a failure before I had the 2010 Assurance Programme updates done, but got round it by locking the car, and walking well away from it i.e. ensured that it couldn't sensor the keys any more, and waiting 30 seconds before retrying - worked fine. Never had another problem since.

Smart Key not Found

Had a problem last week, with error Smart Key not Found, after which the car won't start. To cut a long story short, The good people at Hillendale gave me some advise about metal objects / phones / electronics being in the local of the key. On reflection and a little testing, I realised that I'd bought a new Tom Tom lead which has a seperate cigerette lighter USB charger and lead and the electronics in the USB cigerette lighter part (when plugged into the tom tom and drawing current) interferred with the key electronics and prevented it from being able to talk to the car. The issue only occured when the key was within about 20cm of the USB charger when in use.

move the two apart a little, problem solved.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Cheers.
