Insurance Renewal Success!

I see that everyones insurance is only going up but I managed to buck that trend.

Renewal came through from Admiral at £430. Only up a little on last year but did the search anyway to find chepaer. This was the cheapest I could find so did a check on confused.com (owned by Admiral) and they quoted on there for same cover £350. Rang them to make sure they would honour it and they did! Went through the original policy and the quote to make sure cover was the same and it was.

So maybe worth a try for others. Thats £80 I can now put towards the 105k/7 year service......

The expense never ends....

Had our multi car renewal through last week from Admiral at £571.

Went on the usual comparison sites quoting each car separately and found Admiral still the cheapest.

Then thought I would do a new multi car quote on Admiral's website and it came back at £450:60! Phoned up the renewals line and gave them the online price and ref number and they revised our renewal down to match the online quote.

So, if we hadnt checked for a cheaper quote Admiral would quite happily have taken £571 from my account automatically!! Robbing barstewards!

Happy with £460:60 though as its about £40 less than we paid last year. Thumbs Up

My daughter has her insurance with Elephant (owned by Admiral) and every year her renewal is sky high and every year admiral has been the cheapest Rolling Eyes She rings Elephant up quotes the Admiral price and Elephant match it! 10 minute phone call last month reduced her renewal by £300!

I checked on Aviva and for my D3 XS 2006 model, it costs £286, (I notice that when I include my wife on the policy, the price is lower than just me).

I added my TD5 Defender too, and that was £186 (they suggest 30% for second car on policy.

So £472 for both.

My current NFU insurenace is over £720 for both, and from what I'm hearing, my renewal could go up significantly.

cheers

Your postcode seems to be the deciding factor in terms of the premium you pay unfortunately. Driving history, modifications, business use etc seem to have only a marginal impact compared to your location.

Annoying to say the least as we live on a really nice quiet estate built on old farmland so a nice semi-rural aspect, very little if any car crime or incidents yet due to the fact that my postcode links me to Bradford (which is a major red light warning for insurance comanies) I get stuffed with a premium of over £1000 per year, double last years rate despite no significant personal changes Evil or Very Mad

But Andy it does seam that not all insurance companies have hiked their prices, ours with Privelege stayed the same this year but others around here have gone up a lot.

Maybe so but has your postcode area been 'red-flagged' like mine? I discussed the price with several insurers who all said that there is a national mapping system to calculate risk and that certain areas of the country were experiencing higher than average personal injury claims and 'crash-for-cash' incidents.

What I'm saying is that it isn't always just a case of a particular insurer hiking their prices, there is often another factor at play such as this. When I got my NFH renewal I laughed and was sure I could easily get a better price elsewhere but alas it wasn't to be Sad Comparison sites ranged from just under £1k for poor cover to over £4k with some of the larger providers.

If L/V is Liverpool Victoria then that's a great price - I've used them before and they were top notch for service.

However if you use your D3 offroad then check the policy carefully - some of L/V's policies specifically exclude "offroad events" and I'm not sure where this would leave you at a Land Rover show, or a treasure hunt that included green lanes...

I was going to renew my insurance (new D4 and TD5 90 Defender) with Aviva, but I declared my roll cage and Dastek power plug on the Defender.

They then asked if I used the car off-road, I said yes, and they said they won't insure me.

I explained I didn't expect them to cover me while off-road, but they said it didn't matter, as I'd said I would use the car off road they won't insure.

Anybody else got that response..?

cheers

Simon

Tip

I use a comparison site such as confused.com to see the companies offering the best prices, and then use Quidco to work out the lowest net cost after Quidco's cashback. Then access the insurance company's site from a link in Quidco and enter your details and you will then get the cashback after you've taken out the policy.

Quidco offer cashback up to £80 depending on the insurance company - I've just got £40 cashback from a policy with Hastings Direct via Quidco. Very Happy

Just Insurance Brokers in Hemel Hemstead have always been keen on price. They may not be the cheapest, but if you ever end up in the unfortunate position of making a claim any extra expense becomes worth it.
Tried to make a claim though Direct Line once and was like getting blood from a stone.
