More than suspected Alternator pooped
Ok,
So for the past few months i have had a bit of whine coming from the engine and then 2 weeks ago i get the "transmission range change not available" message in the mornings.
Just started the car and the battery light wont go out so i am assuming the alternator is knackered.
So the big questions,
1/How much is a new/exchange unit? (i will ask TLO tomorrow but a heads up would be good.)
2/Is it an easy job to do yourself?(i can almost here the laughter now)
3/if its not a diy job how many hours labour am i looking at?
I will do a voltage check in the morning to confirm but answers to the above questions might prepare me for the worst
Thanks in advance.

Got your commision sorted then Dave
i would depending on price,I have just shelled out £1200 on the front end and the ironic thing is i was just
talking to Disco_Mikey 8 miles south of them yesterday.i am a bit stuck for time so a 4 hr round trip and the
wait might just be a bit much but certainly not out of the question at the moment.Plus i dont know if i would actually make it up there!!!

Similar symptoms I experienced while in germany last July.
High pitched whine noise, various lights, then finally battery light on all the time.
result was a bill for over 600 euro for a new alternator (fitted)
It's an easy job that I could have done myself back here in the UK, and could have sourced a replacement alternator for around £200 (or less) Never get mad - get even !!

Brian,
Hope you are well mate.
This happened to me at his time last year, TLO was running short of them then. I got mine done locally, the guy stripped mine out and got it reconditioned and then fitted it I again, he took £150 and i slipped him a bottle of whisky - job done.
Hope this gives you an idea!
