2007 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3 HSE Diesel 2.7L (To Purchase)

Hello.

I am in the market for this model.

I need your kind thoughts to help identify tips, traps for this variant before I pay the money.

I have my eyes set on 3 used vehicles and need to know what to look out for.

I currently own and have owned the V8 petrol Disco S1 1995 for the last 10 years and have been very happy with it, and wish to upgrade somewhat.

A couple of things I'd look for;

- If they are all 2007 year of manufacture I'd look for a later one that might be an MY08.
- See if any might have extra's that can't be done as an aftermarket - like rear e-diff.
- See if any have some common mods already done (dual battery etc)
- It may be possible that one has existing coverage by an extended warranty so it's worth checking out
- Search this site for some of the recall items, and then see which ones of your potential purchases have had them done (all should if hey've been LR serviced) I wouldn't rule a vehicle out because it didn't have it done, you can still get them done it's just some extra running around you'll have to do at some point.
- A D3 of that age would probably need some attention around the front lower control arms so I'd check to see if any of the potentials have already had them done.

I have a 2007 MY08 SE TDv6, and there's nothing that's happened to mine that I'd say to watch out for, but some of the people on here with HSE's might have something more specific to that variant.

I bought mine privatley and ended up forking out a bit extra to get the closest dealer to do a pre-purchase inspection, they went over the car and scanned the car for fault codes etc.
I could of got an RACQ but figured the dealers are usually quite picky when looking at cars to find more work so if anything was remotely questionable they would mention it.
They did make particular mention to me that they would check transmission oil as it doesn't last "for life" like LRA claim which was good. Hope this helps. Tom

LRA has never claimed that the transmission lasts "for life".

The service spec is 240,000km or every 10 years - halving that for vehicles that tow or operate in adverse conditions.

Having said that we all know that service interval is nonsense and should be at least half of what LRA have specified.

Not realistically viable unless you have lived in the UK for the 12months prior to importation and can prove you have used the car regularly during that period. Unless this requirement can be met the costs are considerable and not economic. If these rules were not in place, Japan is the best place to import from. Very low Km, great condition and rust free.

GC a local independent in Sydney and a few others have suggested changing the transmission fluid at 96K and including diff oils, transfer box etc. For the transmission it can be expense as it is supposed to be flushed with a vast quantity first.. I had my MY06 Sport transmission, transfer and diff fluids/oils changed at 96K, and i must admit the gear change smoothed out like new Thumbs Up

That is what I will be doing. Also I will be doing a basic drain and refill at 60,000km to freshen up the oil.
