Terrain Response - Ice settings??

I had my first need to change my response settings last night for this year. We had a sudden cold snap after all the heavy rainfall over the last three days quickly froze and made the roads a death trap. Not a sign of a gritter anywhere.


Anyway best setting was G/G/S but when on ice is still no good. A couple of nasty sideways slide...McRae stylee and you soon realise a 3t toboggan is possibly not the best thing to be in, in these conditions....unless you hit something. Rolling Eyes

Oh' and the sweet smell of the FBH as you sit and wait on the windows to defrost......ah' winters here!! Very Happy

Studded tires !

No program can cope with close to no friction.

Maybe studded tires are a little overdoing it this side of arctic circle. So go slow and be aware of slippage risk.

DG your right. No settings or driving style, apart from bloody slow and smooth will save you on ice. Although the GGS setting does hamper the heavy footed get away, which can only help.

I'd forgot how much it retards the acceleration. Steady accel. at 30mph, turn the dial and its like you are driving thru' treacle.

The Scandinavians are Smart..they invented the Stud Tyre...the germans wouldnt use it..caus they are scared its gona damage their motorways . Is it legal in the UK to use a studed tyre? 8)

nice photo again..I was reading on studs and UK law..its almost like the german law but not quite..the germans..totally forbidden...,UK law says you can use them in snow and ice...if you dont damage the roads...if you damage the roads they are illegal... Shocked

Studded tires mainly give you an advantage on ice at +/- 5 degrees Celsius. When its colder or on snow proper snow tires are the best. If you have an emergency brake on bare tarmac you will have less grip then with a tyre without studs. 8).

The biggest problem with winter and snow is that most of us tend to forget to drive defensive and to slow down in time!!!
