RR Sport Engine Replacement
Good evening Troops.
Hope you’re all well.
Not D4 I know but looking to pick some brains if pos anyway. I recently swapped out my failed engine on my RR Sport 2010 3.0. (Turbo went…engine seized) After getting to the point where I’m ready to fire it up I’ve come up against an electrical fault….. the Ignition doesn’t seem to want to stay on and it won’t turn over.
The battery was goosed so I’ve swapped that out anyway. I’ve moved various relays around and checked fuses, etc. The earth is connected and seems ok. 400Amp fuse been replaced.
If anyone else has come up against this I’d be interested to know what the issue was and how you went about finding it.
Thanks in advance.2005 D3 HSE

Most likely something not connected properly causing a CAN error, or something simple like the brakes not being bled properlyMy D3 Build Thread

Good evening.
Thanks for the reply.
I’ll take another look. Would the Brake not bled properly cause this? In my haste and naivety I’ve not even sorted the brakes yet. They’re still all disconnected with the pedal held down…. The brake lights are on so assumed it would this think brake was on and let me start it 🤦♂️🤷♂️
I’ve also not cleared the codes….guessed this would be on seeing as the battery been disconnected for so long…. Would / could this prevent it from turning over?
Every day a school day with these things! Haha
Thanks again.2005 D3 HSE

There needs to be brake fluid pressure before it will allow a start condition

Not really as it is an inbuilt safety feature that stops you using a vehicle with defective brake pressures.

Out of interest, does the RRS 3.0 take longer to turn over? I had a MY16 D4 on trial a few months ago and everything was great but it took a couple of seconds longer to turn over. When I got my local LR indie to give it the once over, they told me that the engine had been replaced (something the non-LR dealer had forgotten to tell me!). He noted that he has seen that due to software issues, the RRS would take at little longer to turn over - not sure if there is any truth in that though.
I rejected the vehicle and got my money back. Shame, everything else was good but no information available on the engine, except the hand written RRS3.0 on the engine!

Sorry…missed this.
I can’t say I’ve noticed it turning over slow so guess not but could be wrong.
I also have a D3 TDV6…different engine I know but it’s turns over much the same speed as far as I can tell.
That’s a shame you had to hand it back…might have been ok but you just never know eh.2005 D3 HSE
