bike carrier for D3 and Sankey
Sorry to ask a question that has been asked hundreds of times but i cant find what im looking for....
I'm looking for a Cycle Carrier that I can attached to the tow bar on the D4, and when towing the Sankey can attach it to the back of then Sankey. I need to carry two bikes.
done a +cycle +carrier search and loads of stuff but a lot of the model numbers for products are now out of date.
1) when not towing, I need to be able to attached the carrier to the back of the D4 but I also need to be able to open the upper and lower tailgate fully, so we can get the dog out and/or slide out the engel fridge.
2) When towing the Sankey I though I could attach it to the rear of the trailer and I would need the same to happen so we can open the lower tailgate of the trailer.
3) ideally we would want to attached the carrier to the rear of the D4 when towing the caravan, but again, need to full open the upper and lower tailgate.
any ideas Duncan

This Witter one would do it if you made up a couple of four hole plates to go behind the NATO jaw and the back of the Sankey.

does that allow the tailgate to drop, or do you have to remove the bikes everytime. Im a bit lazy so didnt want to remove the bikes each time we dropped the tailgate.Duncan

You could make plates and fit a Maxraxx, that folds down to open tailgate. convoy For Heroes record holder (348)

Sorry to jump on this thread... ,but when I got my D3 I tried to buy longer bolts to fit my Witter bike carrier onto the Multi Height Towbar, but was able to get them, reading this has reminded me ,anyone know where I can get some ,thanksWww.devonchilliman.co.uk
Not as it comes out of the box, but a hinge would be a simple mod should you be making your own mounting plates.
Folding down to open the tailgate sounds easy until you have to lift them up again!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I was hoping to just buy something off the shelf rather than make stuff - Thule have a lot of options but its not easy to work out if they work with the D3/D4 tailgate Duncan

The Thule warehouse is just down the road from you at Clevedon. I dont know how helpful they are but might be able to look at the real thing, in the flesh, and then decide. They should have everything in stock.
