Has anyone had any experience with this ?
My 1 year service had a $250 charge for this oil which is presumably now being used in an attempt to reduce engine load and fuel consumption.
My current fuel usage is about 9l/100km on a long run and 15l+/100km around town - which is a bit different from the land rover brochure !
This 2.7 diesel has done 22,000 km.
[and about to have brakes/hydrabushes/all steering gear replaced under warranty]
Should have stayed with the D3. +======

You should be getting 7l/100km, so somethings definitely not right somewhere! But they do spec different oils for different markets, due to temperature differences.... The 2.7 engine was known for loosing oil too but mine has not done this. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

I just looked and the oil supplement that came in the manual of my D4 (2.7L MY11) says: "All markets except North America: 5W/30 - WSS-M2C913-B - Only"
According to the Castrol lube guide - "CASTROL MAGNATEC PROFESSIONAL A5 5W-30" is the right oil. The issue is that this is only available to pro shops. It does however, also have a note:
"1151 If unavailable, may also use CASTROL EDGE SPORT 5W-30 or CASTROL EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4."
Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 is what I used previously in my D3. This has now been superceded with the latter. Don't use the Castrol Edge Sport Titanium 5W-30 - as it is not suitable.
Cheers,
Rob

Have just found this:
Castrol SLX Professional Fuel Saver A1 5W-20 for Land Rover
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/extendedsec...Id=7063530
and
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericarti...Id=7059886
after a round trip Sydney Ballarat Melbourne Sydney - av fuel is down to 9.1 l/100km
i'll find out more from the dealer - like why $50 /l ?
the 'old' SAE grade is based on the assumption that the oil viscosity drops with use [as well as temperature]
I think this a new ? compound/formula +======

I understand it is "low SAPS" oil to protect the particulate filter.
I found the same thing, Castrol Professional (which is the new "Low SAPS" oil still SAE 5-30 but C1) is only available to Pro Shops!
How much faster does the particulate filter fail if you don't use "Low SAPS"?
10% quicker 50%????
