MY D3 has an excellent reliability record !!
Hi Guys, having enjoyed this forum for many months and owned a 55 plate D3 HSE since november, I read of many problems and fixes daily. All very useful !! But I was starting to have a skewed view of the reliability of these cars. So I decided to look through the very comprehensive service and maintenance records provided by the last owner since demo.
So during 6.5 years and 61000 miles apart from routine maintenance this car has required a new compressor and gearstick linkage. PRETTY IMPRESSIVE ME THINKS !!Discovery 3 HSE 55 plate Buckingham Blue with Alpacha

Freelander 2 gs manual, from new, now gone
Defender td5 full county pack, from new lovely lovely, now gone
Defender 110 12 seater 300tdi no heater, good prep for antarctic, now gone
various old farm landies, what a way to learn to drive !!!

Yep the forum can make you paranoid. As for my 7 years it's a compressor, gear linkage, coolant temp sensor, steering wheel, heated washer nozzles and EGR blanks.

Well now you've gone and done it. You shouldn't talk about such things. Its just bad juju.

Landrovers are living things and as such, like us, we replace all the cells in our body in about 7 years and landrovers have to have all their parts replaced every 7 years.
Like the highly reliable 30 year old woodmans axe. Only had 2 new axe heads and 3 new handles...There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

My 2006 D3 came with a service book too... According to it, from new till when I got it in September 2010 all it had done was normal oil changes and services.
Since 2010 it needed bushes and a new front diff and is now looking at a new battery.
It has either been ultra reliable or there are things missing from the book Dennis

I thought I'd find compressor replacements, differentials, turbos, brake discs and pads (I seriously don't think the brake pads lasted 70000 miles!), etc etc.
But maybe it's better if those things are hidden as they'll put off a potential buyer Dennis
