2012MY fuel consumption
Hi, recently traded my 2007 D3 SE for a 2012 8-speed HSE and thought I'd share my experiences thus far regarding mpg.....
Picked the car up from Guy Salmon in Bristol, and a week later went on a fishing trip to southern Ireland. reset the trip on disembarking from the ferry in Rosslare... 230 miles later arrived in Waterville, Co. Kerry - my base for a weeks fishing
Now most of the trip was 'A' roads, typically 50-60mph, with one stretch of dual-carriageway about 7 miles long. The Disco's computer said I'd averaged 37mpg(!) on the way to Waterville. This dropped to 34.5mpg average during the week, pottering around the area. Now I'm home and have covered a total of 1800 miles the average is still good at 33.5mpg.
I reckon that's easily 5-6 mpg up on my old Disco 3.
Anyone have similar experiences?
BTW, the 8-speed is a great improvement over the 6-speed auto.
Cheers,
FLJust swapped my '07 D3 SE for a 2012MY SDV6 HSE in Baltic Blue... and then later on changed that one for a 2015 HSE in Loire Blue

For a truer picture of you mpg I would do it on fill ups and not on the trip computer, I think the general consensus is that the trip computer reads too high. I know on my MY11 D4 the trip computer usually says about 4mpg more than I am actually getting, I use an app on my phone and that works it out from each time I fill the tank.Cheers Ian

the mpg!!!
How'd the fishing go? Which river were you on?
I've done 960 miles in my new car and it shows about 32mpg on short Mways trips (M4 to Bristol from home) but short commutes it shows about 26mpg which is 3mpg better than my 2011. Am filling up again tomorrow and will calculate then as well.

For some reason D4's always seem to return better mpg on the roads over here in Ireland than they do in the UK!2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

so, I messed up in my move.
Went from a D3 Manual to a MY10 D4 Auto and the MPG is a lot worse - about 80 miles less per tank full on the D4 D4 HSE - Aintree Green

I've done 7000 miles in MY12 and my calculations indicate a 10% improvement over MY10 and my old 07 D3.

The 8 speed auto gearbox on the MY12 was always going to help to improve the overall fuel economy. In Ireland we only get the TDV6 option, which does even better on the economy front!2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

My long term consumption (measured brim to brim) over three Discos, all autos, all with a similar mix of driving, has been
D3 MY2008 26.0
D4 MY2010 24.6
D4 MY2012 26.1
I suspect that the MY2012 would be considerably better than the D3 if I drove it the same as the D3, but it's sooooo much more 'chuckable' and responsive that I'm sure I drive it harder

Have a 2012MY 3.0 SDV6 with 8 speed rotary knob gearbox. I am averaging a 'real' 31mpg overall, mostly A/B road commuting, bit of town tootling and some 100 mile motorway cruises at 80mph on cruise. This is with 4k miles on the clocks now so expecting it get slightly better.
Given performance is better (and I tend to use it a bit more ) than my older 2.7 D3's I'd say I'm getting about 3-4 mpg more. Used to get about 31 mpg out of a manual on 70mph cruise controlled commutes in one of them, around 26-27mpg overall. The D4 does about 33mpg at 80mph on cruise

I wish!!!
I have a 7 week old HSE which I use for commutes and a bit of Mway. It's done just over 1500miles and my Lieometer shows average fuel at 26.4, but the real mpg is 22.8mpg.
I set cruise at 80mph on MWay and the commute is about 16 miles per day.
My 2011 HSE did about 2mpg less until just about 10,000 miles on the clock and then it went up to just over 28mpg combined. So it seems my local LR garage (not a dealer) was right when he said that you need to do at least 10k before the mpg settles down.

I had a MY12 D4 XS for a week while mine was at the dealer, I was surprised to find that the XS did 3.1 miles to the gallon less than my MY11 HSE - I did not use the fuel computer on the car. Also found the 8 speed gearbox to be less responsive and not as smooth as I thought it would be.

My D3's average shot up after I had the EGRs blanked - averaging 30mpg on the lie-o-meter - but the first 1600 miles on the D4 have been at 27 mpg. Hopefully it will increase . Both on summer tyres too - I found a drop when I put the STs on every winter.

1 area that I think inaccuracy comes from is the trip computer only measures fuel injected into the engine. Therefore any fuel used by the FBH will not be taken into account.
