Rear Wheel Arch Door Seal Dirt Trap... Have you noticed it?
Hhhmm... I wonder, does vehicle washing come under maintenance?
How many of you have failed to notice a dirt trap where the rubber door seal joins the black plastic trim on the inside of the rear doors over the rear wheel arches. I thought I did a thorough job of vehicle washing but when I ran my finger between the rubber seal and the trim I was suprised to feel it was packed full of dirt and after cleaning it out from both doors I notice the screw heads are rusting, not a major problem I know but now I know I will keep them clean!
Have a look at yours!

Regularly get loads of mud out of them, esp after offroading.

I use a thin brush to clean it out every time I wash it.

TFC - The seals are not big enough to keep kids out of the D3, you need to fit large aftermarket seals for that...
Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

I’m surprised this doesn’t get talked about more. It appears to me as though that dirt trap is causing rust at the corner just in front of the rear wheel arch. I assumed it was coming from within but it’s fine the other side, which shows no sign of trapping dirt either. So for some reason the door seal on the near side is allowing dirt to sit against the body and causes rust there. If I could get the door seal to stick tight to door I don’t think it would let it accumulate there. I can see the seal is kind of sitting out away from the door and as such is allowing a gap to the body when the door is closed.

I put some thick, clear vinyl film there. On my car it had rusted right through, and I had to pay £££ to fix it. So now it rubs against the cheap film that I can replace every spring
