Broke down on Saturday when the alternator failed and battery suddenly was discharged. It was taken in to a main dealer and they have told me that they have to replace the alternator, battery tensioner and belt and the whole cost is about £700. That seems extortion to me, does anyone kow if that is the norm and why does the tensioner and belt need to be replaced.
Incidentaly, I have extended warranty, but they will only pay for the alternator and I am left with a bill of over £400 for the battery, tensioner and belt
Why not get a price for the battery, tensioner and belt from TLO ?

Thanks Guys and thanks to TLO. After 'discussions' with the main dealer (armed with true retail prices) I managed to get a sizeable reduction in the bill
