EPB Woes, can't get into service mode? |
|
EPB has been faulty on my 05 RRS for a while now after sticking on one evening. Until now I just ignored it and didnt use it.
The shoes were replaced last week but the local garage were unable to get it working, they dont have diagnostics for it, I think it is beyond them to be honest. The EBP makes a series of noises when you try to apply it, like three motor pulses, then two pulses, then two pulses, then another two pulses. Im hoping the EPB actuator is not knackered as I know what that will cost and i will probably have to sell a kidney to pay for it.
Anyway I figured I would follow bodsys guide for adjusting the EPB to see if I can sort it myself but I seem unable to get the thing into serice mode.
With ignition in position II I press down on the footbrake 3 times, holding it down on the 3rd press, whilst holding down I press down on the EPB switch for 5 seconds but nothing seems to happen, no message on dash (not sure if there should be). Am I missing something? IS this preocedure like trying to put in street fighter turbo cheats where everything has to be done with precision timing? Does the EPB faults need clearing on the diagnostics before it will enter service mode?
Thanks in advance.

If your adjusting it, then just make sure the epb is off, remove the fuse, then adjust. Bodsys Brake Bible

taken from Bodsys bible
With the Engine running, press the brake pedal fully on and off 3 times. On the third press, hold
the brake pedal down.
With the brake pedal still in the down position, pull the EPB switch upwards 4 times and then
downwards 3 times.
This must be completed within 10 seconds.
Your dash display will then show ‘Park Brake Bedding Cycle
I belive (from what you've done) is missed the pulling up/down of the EPB switch Si

Heh, I guess I must have an old version of the brake bible.

Stright from the horses mouth, great stuff thank you I will get it up on axle stands tomorrow and give it a talking to. In your experience, is the noise I (kind of) described normal for an out of adjustment EPB as the garage said the noise meant it was and needed replacing.
