Help Please Fault code PO625

Hi all just had battery warning light come up. My friendly local mercedes mechanic connected his wonderful dignostic machine to the Disco 3 and it came up with Fault Code 'PO625 Generator Field / F Terminal circuit low' but he was unable to gather any further information as to a faulty alternator or ECU problem. Any mechanical Wizard help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be the alternator on its way out, or already gone. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
