Transmission Error when starting the car appears on the dash |
|
This morning we started the car and the dash displayed the error "Transmission Error", and I think it said Low Power Mode but I'm not 100% sure. I have the 54 plate so just out of the warranty period!!!
It appeared to drive ok when the message went off after a few seconds. We started it again and the message did not appear.
Should I be concerned. Another post talks about changing a faulty brake bulb which fixed the issue. Is it as simple as an electrical fault?
Also, since I got the car, I have noticed it does take longer than expected to move through the low gears when setting off. Ie, from a standing position, you put a little pressure on the accelerator and it moves, but when you expect it to move up a gear it doesn't, adding a little pressure to the accelerator pins you back in your seat, which can be annoying and over expensive on the fuel etc. It does move up the gears, but about 5 seconds too late.
I'm wondering if the 2 are related?
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
Paul

Original battery? Battery and/or alternator was my first non techie thought for your 1st issue, EGRs second. Prob not related, just coincidence.

Just like DSL my thougts are a weak battery/alternator for the tranny error. Leave your lights and radio on for half an hour and see if your battery is drained.
Do you have excessive smoke from the rear? Clean you map sensor, use some diesel additive to clean your injectors and turbo and see if the gears pick up better.

This is usually a battery on its last legs.

Any recommendations to the diesel additive or just a trip to halfords and get them to recommend? Does this additive just go in with the diesel next time I full up? Also, how do I clean the map sensor, where/what is it?
I'll try the battery option with leaving the lights and radio on and see what happens. Hopefully its not something on the discovery draining it slowly as anew battery will simply do the same!!
When you refer to the ERGs, are these to add blanking plates or replace them?

when we bought the car transmission faults came up, replaced the battery and it's been fine ever since (apart from special programs off a few times but that's just a bit of low voltage)

- Redex is available at Halfords.
- Map sensor thread http://disco3.co.uk/forum/topic64159.html?highlight=Map
- Remove egr's and blank them with BAS blanking kit from site sponsor bas/pete bell. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS
