Removable tow bar

For a number or reasons, my tow bar has been in the cubby hole wrapped up in a old towel for the last two years. The other day I came to use it and it had set itself ie the latch had popped out. It was a bit of an effort to get it reset (or perhaps it was just me without any instructions) I cannot remember this happening before (it has never been unused for two years either!) - Any ideas??

Mine got stuck after water got into the shed during a 100mph breeze, took the back plate off (the shiny bit) sprayed in plenty of WD40, worked it back and forth till loose, filled with grease, no problems since then.

The towbar was taken off the car and left in the unlocked position. When I came to put it back on, the latch/peg had popped out.

I'm sure that on previous occasions that I just took the unit out and gave a shove then the latch popped out.

I've always had to manually move the latch in or out by working the green handle...
