Caravan - twin axle tyre pressures |
|
Hi, Does anyone understand the formula for deciding the correct tyre pressures on a twin axle by using the MTPLM and the info shown on the tyre please. Ive looked at two different explanations and are getting two different answers. My caravan MTPLM = 1600KG. The tyres are 165R 13C (94/93 N) with a max load (single) of 670Kg @ 450KPA Max 65PS cold On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

Hi Al, Don't have the handbook i'm afraid and can't buy a copy anywhere. Mine is an Avondale Argente 640-6 and using one of the formulas I found it worked out to 38.8 (39) Psi so not that far from your 42, but it just seems a bit on the low side to me. I usually stick 40 Psi in anyway but as i'm taking it to Europe thought i'd better get it right as we will be upto max load

yep - understand - I think 42psi seems to be average for most of the big T/A's, as I'm sure there was a thread a while back on this.
I know Avondale aren't in business any more, but Raymond James caravans in Cov used to be one of their biggest dealers, and if I recall, are now located in the old Avondale premises. You could try calling their service center and asking.

Several members have recently been looking for Avondale manuals.
We AAOCC (formely All Avondale Owners Club)were contacted last year by a company that hold many of the manuals on file and are happy to print and post our for a modest cost. You can contact them at;

You must have used this formula -
MTPLM x Max PSI / Max Tyre Load x Number of Tyres
1600 x 65 / 670 x 4 = 38.8 psi
I found the formula on CaravanTalk some while ago. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Highbayrack,
PM me your home address and I'll send you a copy of my handbook. I have the Avondale Windsor 640-6 which is the same as yours bar a few bits and pieces. Just taken a look and my handbook covers the Argente as well as the Windsor.
Regards
Paul

Thanks, thats the formula I used and will go with that, it was just that the dealer origionally told me 42 psi and it never felt right. By the way, I see we both have the best color D4's On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

From a posting on caravan talk 165/80/13 pressure is 35psi, posted by swift caravan representative. So looking at this answer and the others 35-40 psi you ain't gunna be far out.
My hymer runs at 60psi for comparison.
