It looks like I might be needing yet another new turbo on my D3. The current one has lasted about 7000 miles and 16 months! I understand that the turbo fitted to the D3 is a Borg-Warner. Is the D4 blighted with the same manufacture or has it got decent ones? I ask because this might be the final straw with the D3, but I'm really struggling to think of something to replace it with other than a D4.
It was no fun, towing a caravan uphill, overtaking a slower moving car, when "bong", "engine system fault" and a massive reduction in power! Poor woman, I bet she wondered what I was playing at. The fault code came up with "turbo overboost".
Thank you.

i had the turbo overboast message a couple of years back when pulling the caravan in 4th, doing 60mph uphill.
the only way to clear it and get full power back was to do a fault code reset with the faultmate.
its been ok ever since so it may not be a failed turbo - just needs a code reset Duncan

I got to the caravan site (Chatsworth Park) after stopping and re-starting. After I'd been going for a few minutes, it did it again, but I managed to get to the site with reduced power.
After dropping the caravan off, I drove back to an Inde that I use who plugged the computer in and also cleared the fault. I gave the car some stick at every chance afterwards (not like me, I'm probably too gentle usually), and it was fine. However, I'm thinking of borrowing my father's FL2 for the return journey, unless my faith is miraculously restored.
Thank you for the advice though.

Not that it makes any difference to your problem but the turbo's on D3's are Made by KKK. The actuator is made by Borg-Warner.

I didn't realise the dodgy folks from the deep south wearing white robes & pointy hoods made turbos!! Must be a bit if diversification.

If you want to avoid the chance of turbo faults . Avoid the 3.0 tdv6 and the 4.4tdv8

My utmost apologies old chap - I missed that because my crystal ball threw up an "Ether management" code, preventing any further clairvoyance on my behalf. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription
